new mixes

I recently added some remixes of two songs. A version of "If You're Singing By Yourself" with mandolin and violin performances, and a cooler mix of "Beija Flor"

Check 'em out.

Day 3: 'Dolin, 'Phesis

I'm going to a mandolin concert this Saturday ("Spokandolin"). Should be fun. I'm really digging the mandolin. I'm going to try taking off the big strings on my twelve string guitar (the low ocave ones) and replace them with matching octave strings (sort of a Nashville tuning). It should give it a sort of a mandocello sound. Considering a decent mandocello costs at least $1,000, I think it's worth a try...

The word of the day is: Aphesis. To let go. Releasing. To forgive. Also the gradual elimination of the first part of a word, like 'til, 'kay, 'cause, 'squire, etc.

Day 2: Resigned to my fate

I finally got the rhythm track from Devin for "Beija Flor." It sounds good. I think I'm going to re-record the acoustic guitar, maybe just use one track of nylon string classical guitar. I also came up with some jazzy mandolin riffs. Beija Flor (or "Hummingbird" in Portuguese) is basically a dumbed down bossa nova song. Well, the chords are dumbed down, the lyrics are authentic.

Beija Flor
words and music by Ben McCombs

quando estou
aquí com você
assím
e o silencio
fáz-me lembrar
do dia em quê
em quê conhecia
você e eu disse a mim
mesmo
será quá nós dois será?
e eu
sou seu
e se tivesse tempo eu
ía explicar as
tantas vezes
quê você me fez
chorar de alegria
quero quê saibas
quê eu
sou seu
